Space still available for Wyoming oilseed trade mission trip
CHEYENNE – Space is still available for an oilseed trade mission trip for Wyoming producers to observe the agronomic practices for growing, harvesting and processing oilseeds such as safflower, canola, sunflowers and camelina.
All travel expenses for participants on the trip are paid through a Western Professional + Producer SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) grant received by the Business Council Agribusiness Division in 2009.
The trip, which takes place June 14-18 in Montana will start in Sheridan, Wyo., and includes the following stops:
• Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., to learn about recent developments in oilseed product marketing
• Sustainable Oils Inc.’s open house and demonstration field day at its research center in Bozeman, Mont.
• Central Agricultural Research Center in Moccasin, Mont., to learn about oilseed and pulse crop research
• Earl-Fisher Biofuels in Chester, Mont., to observe oilseed crushing facilities and biodiesel processing systems
• Montana State University – Northern in Havre, Mont., to tour and observe biodiesel testing facilities
• Producer site visit with Bob Quinn, Big Sandy, Mont., to tour on-farm oilseed crushing and biodiesel processing facilities and observe oilseed test plots
“As a result of receiving the grant, we have $50,000 to help Wyoming producers and agribusinesses evaluate and research potential for growing various oilseeds,” said Donn Randall, Crop and Forage Program Manager for the Business Council, who is hosting the trip. “These monies can be used in the production of biodiesel, livestock feed meal and for human nutritional products that utilize oilseeds in their product development. The SARE grant has greatly helped promote awareness and acceptance of growing oilseeds in Wyoming.”
