Wyoming agriculture leader to head international ag organization
CHEYENNE – A leader in Wyoming’s agriculture industry took the reigns of an international agriculture organization in July 2008.
Cindy Garretson-Weibel, Agribusiness director at the Wyoming Business Council, was recently named president of North American Agricultural Marketing Officials (NAAMO), an international organization comprised of 63 states and provinces from the U.S. and Canada. The organization provides a forum for members to exchange ideas and enhance worldwide market opportunities for North American agricultural products.
Garretson-Weibel, the first Wyomingite to hold a position on the organization’s executive board since its formation in 1921, said it is an important resource for Wyoming’s agriculture industry.
“This organization is a good way to learn about other programs and how they might be replicated to benefit our own state,” said Garretson-Weibel. “In my new role, I hope to increase that level of interaction even more to help Wyoming and other states and provinces keep up with ever-changing consumer demands.”
Garretson-Weibel’s involvement with the organization began in 2000 as a representative of Wyoming. She later became the group’s secretary/treasurer, and served in both second and first vice president positions.
Garretson-Weibel’s term is for one year, after which she will become an honorary, or lifetime, member.
“I am honored to serve as the president of an organization that is so committed to bettering our agriculture industry,” said Garretson-Weibel.
The mission of the Wyoming Business Council is to facilitate the economic growth of Wyoming. For more information, please visit our Web site at www.wyomingbusiness.org.
